Qualifying test devices are part of a new class of testing devices that meet the needs of network technicians who are not installing new cabling but who need to troubleshoot networks. Qualifying testers perform the tests that decide whether an existing cabling link supports "Fast Ethernet" (100BASE-TX), Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP), or Gigabit Ethernet requirements. These test tools additionally allow the network technician to quickly isolate or resolve network protocol cabling issues. Qualification testing instruments, such as CableIQ ™ Qualification Tester, include all the capabilities of verification test instruments, but are more powerful in that they perform a cable bandwidth assessment and identify errors that affect bandwidth. Qualifying testers do not perform the full range of tests prescribed by standards to be considered "certification tools." "
